Coronavirus cases identified at three more Edmonton public schools

Three more public schools in Edmonton have discovered coronavirus cases in students or staff in the past 24 hours.

The affected institutes are Waverley School, Nellie Carlson School, and A. Blair McPherson School, according to a Friday news release from Edmonton Public Schools.

Two individuals at Waverley School tested positive, which could lead Alberta Health to declare an outbreak if it determines there was a possibility of transmission at the elementary school. Waverley is not currently listed on Alberta Health’s list of school outbreaks.

One person at Nellie Carlson and one person at A. Blair McPherson tested positive.

All students and staff who were in close contact with the sick individuals need to stay home and self-isolate. More than 100 students across the city are currently self-isolating, and these latest cases are forcing another 70 or so students to stay home.

The district says those that need to stay home will receive learning supports, but it hasn’t disclosed what those supports will be.
