Detour alert: These Edmonton roads will be closed on Saturday and Sunday

If your weekend plans involve the river valley or the university area, you’ll want to block off some extra time, as the World Triathlon Cup is taking over several major routes.
The two-day international sprint triathlon and mixed relay event will run from July 18 to 19 at Hawrelak Park.
Saturday will be the big day to plan around. Closures start at 6 a.m., and some won’t lift until 5:30 p.m., hitting Groat Road, Saskatchewan Drive, Emily Murphy Park, Hawrelak Park and the Mayfair Overpass.
Sunday will be a shorter window, but you can expect to see delays on the same stretch of road.
