The Edmonton Oilers may be playing in the Stanley Cup Final, but that isn’t stopping them from finding prospects to add to the organization.
The Oilers announced this morning that they have signed forward Viljami Marjala to a two-year entry-level contract.
The 22-year-old winger has spent the past three seasons in Finland’s Liiga with TPS Turku. He’s coming off his best season to date, registering eight goals and 52 points in 54 outings. The 2023-24 campaign saw him put up 17 goals and 40 points in 60 games.
Marjala was once a part of the Buffalo Sabres organization, having been selected 159th overall in the 2021 draft. He’s since become a free agent, however, and will be playing in North American soil for the 2025-26 campaign.
Given Marjala’s inexperience to the North American game and the great depth the Oilers have, he is likely to begin next season in the AHL. That said, a call up at some point during the season is certainly not out of the question for the 6-foot, 176-pound forward. At the very least, this adds a legitimate prospect into the fold for an organization that doesn’t have a ton at this time.
