Edmonton Oilers recall red-hot AHL prospect who is brothers with an NHL star

The Edmonton Oilers made a transaction early Monday morning that they are hoping can help with their secondary scoring.

Less than 12 hours after falling to the Montreal Canadiens, the Oilers announced that Quinn Hutson has been recalled from the Bakersfield Condors. The 23-year-old sits third amongst all AHLers with 16 goals, and fourth in points with 28.

Hutson, who starred with Boston University for three seasons, signed a two-year entry-level deal with the Oilers late in the 2024-25 season. He was able to make his Oilers debut a short time later, suiting up for two games.

The signing is looking like a great find for the Oilers, as his rookie season with the Condors is going better than anybody would have imagined. For most, this call-up was only a matter of time.

Hutson, who was born in North Harrington, Illinois, is part of a very prestigious hockey family. His brother, Lane, is already a star defenceman for the Montreal Canadiens, having racked up 96 points through his first 116 NHL games.

Meanwhile, another one of his younger brothers, Cole, was drafted in the second round of the 2024 draft by the Washington Capitals and has racked up seven goals and 20 points in 18 games with Boston University this season.

Last, but certainly not least of the brothers, is Lars. The 17-year-old has suited up for 24 games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL, where he has two assists thus far.

The four brothers are the sons of Rob, who played four seasons with the University of Illinois Chicago before spending numerous seasons playing lower levels of professional hockey in the United States.

After suffering their first regulation loss in six games on Sunday, the Oilers are back in action on Tuesday versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. That will mark the second of a four-game road trip, as they will also face the Boston Bruins and Minnesota Wild later in the week before returning home to play the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday.

It has yet to be confirmed when Hutson will make his season debut, but fans should expect to see him at some point on this current road trip, perhaps even on Tuesday against the Pens.
