Access to clothing-free beach near Edmonton temporarily cut off

A clothing-free beach just outside of Edmonton is temporarily closed due to trail damage sustained from the North Saskatchewan River rising earlier this week.

CottonTail Corner, which was developed back in 2013 as “Alberta’s first naturist beach”, is a clothing-free recreation area in the County of Parkland near the Town of Devon.

In a recent post shared to its Facebook page, effective immediately, the CottonTail Corner Trail is closed, cutting off access to the beach.

“This is just until we can repair flood damage, cut a new trail and maintain what we have.
If you’re interested in helping, we are organizing a work party to work on this on Saturday at 10 a.m. Meet in the parking lot by the picnic table. Bring any tools you might need for clearing the bush,” the post added.

While it’s yet to be revealed when the trail is set to reopen, Cottontail Corner is a day-use only area, open from 8 a.m. to sunset.

If you are interested in checking it out when access is restored, take Highway 16A west to Highway 60 if you are departing from Edmonton. Travel south to Gramina Road (Township Road 511), which is the turnoff to Prospector’s Point just before the Devon Bridge. Turn right (west), and then immediately turn left (south) again on Prospector’s Point Road. Do not turn off this road. Follow it all the way down into the river valley to the Prospector’s Point parking lot.

From the parking lot, visitors are asked to start walking upstream, with information prior to the river rising detailing a lower path going through the trees that you would follow, which would take you to CottonTail Corner.

If you were curious about other clothing-optional spots in Alberta, Calgary has two nude beaches and here’s where to find them.
