These indoor pools in Edmonton are reopening this month

The City of Edmonton is reopening four indoor pools this month with new coronavirus safety precautions.

The four pools reopening on July 20 are Jasper Place, Bonnie Doon, Clareview, and the Kinsmen Sports Centre.

“We are excited to welcome Edmontonians back into our pools for swim activities, but we’re asking all visitors to learn about new safety protocols that are in place to ensure everyone’s safety,” Shauna Graham, acting director of leisure centres and outdoor pools, said in a news release.

Everyone must now reserve a swim time online in advance, and pool capacities have been reduced. Pool patrons should follow one-way markings on the floor, and during lane swim there will only be one swimmer allowed per lane.

Swimming lessons will be available at the pools once again, but the student-to-instructor ratio will now be one-to-one.

The City reminded residents that they’re encouraged to wear masks while inside community centres and on deck. However, face masks are not effective while in the water and guests should take them off before swimming.

Hot tubs and steam rooms at the pools will remain closed for the time being and won’t reopen until Alberta enters Stage 3 of its relaunch strategy (there’s currently no word on when that will be).
