Corey Perry had great response after Kings player called Oilers dirty

The playoffs don’t start until the weekend, but the war of words has already started between the Edmonton Oilers and the LA Kings.

It wasn’t much of a game between those eventual playoff rivals as the Kings backhanded a short-staffed Oilers club to the tune of a 5-0 lashing on Monday night. That, however, lent to a more physical game with a total of 69 penalty minutes between the two teams, 53 of which belonged to Edmonton.

That did not go over well with LA forward Phillip Danault, who had some scathing words for the Oilers in the first intermission.

“I think they just have their b-squad and are trying to hurt us,” Danault said. “That’s pretty much the message tonight, and that’s what I’m thinking.”

There were some rough plays, including Connor Brown going after Danault after a hit in the first period. Darnell Nurse was given a five-minute major and thrown out of the game for a cross-check that injured Kings forward Quinton Byfield.

Though it was a bit ignorant to say this was the Oilers’ “b-squad,” considering the team has been hit with a slew of injuries to several key players. This was the healthiest lineup Edmonton could muster.

When asked about Danault’s comments after the game, Oilers veteran Corey Perry fired back with some strong words of his own.

“What the f*ck, excuse my language, what do you want us to do?” Perry responded. “Did he not look at what’s happened over the last couple of weeks, like what do you want us to do?

“We’re not out there to hurt anybody… nothing else. Move on.”

Surely, that comment will become bulletin board material for the Oilers as they prepare to take on the Kings in the playoffs. Danault has been a thorn in Edmonton’s side for the previous three first-round series between these teams, and that will not change for the fourth time either.

We’ll have to wait and see if the Oilers make Danault and the rest of the Kings pay for that comment when the playoffs get underway.
