An iconic Edmonton street will light up later this month as Candy Cane Lane returns for another season.
The holiday tradition officially kicks off on Friday, Dec. 12, and runs until Friday, Jan. 2. Located on 148th Street from 92nd Avenue to 99th Avenue, the beloved lane has been synonymous with Christmas in Edmonton since 1968, with residents decorating their homes from top to bottom with thousands of twinkling lights.
“As you stroll through the streets of Crestwood during the holiday season, you’ll find homes adorned with twinkling lights, colourful decorations, and the unmistakable scent of holiday joy lingering in the air,” the event’s website reads.
Lights will be on every evening from dusk to 11 p.m.
On Dec. 13 and 23, Candy Cane Lane will be closed to vehicles. Everyone is encouraged to take a little longer to enjoy the lights while walking, sledding, skiing, biking, or getting down the lane, however they wish.

If you’re looking to add an extra festive touch to the experience, sleigh rides will run on Dec. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, and 28 for $25 per person.
“Candy Cane Lane has become a testament to the enduring commitment and creativity of its founding residents, who, more than 50 years ago, embarked on a mission to turn their neighbourhood into a winter wonderland.”
The event is free to check out; however, food bank donations are strongly encouraged. Green donation bins will be set up along the lane to drop off your food bank items.
