Chelsea Green says she has received death threats following comments she recently made about Hulk Hogan.

The Canadian WWE star appeared on CBS News last week, commenting on the passing of Hogan. In the live hit, Green called Hogan an “icon” but also gave attention to his “polarizing political views.”

“Polarizing political views aside, he was an absolute icon,” Green said on the hit. “If it weren’t for Hulk Hogan, there are many of us in the wrestling industry that would absolutely not be here.

“He inspired a massive generation, so it’s a loss that we are feeling deeply in the wrestling community.”

Green’s comments acknowledged Hogan’s controversial past briefly but largely stayed positive about his legacy as a whole when it comes to wrestling.

Following the TV hit, the Victoria, B.C., native took to social media to address concerns that her comments leaned too positively on a man who was marred with so much controversy, particularly when it came to his well-documented history of racist views.

“Yesterday, I was asked to comment on Hulk Hogan on live TV,” Green wrote. “Let me be clear: my stance on racism is unwavering. I do not condone it — period.

“If my response (or tweet) seemed dismissive of real concerns, I sincerely apologize. That was never my intention. I tried to acknowledge a death respectfully, even when the legacy is complicated.”

Hogan’s most public controversy came to light in 2015 after a leaked video transcript revealed that the iconic wrestler used racial slurs to describe his daughter’s relationship with a black man.

The WWE fired Hogan after the scandal broke, but later brought him back into the fold after he apologized for the incident. Hogan was also a staunch supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump during the 2024 election, having given a speech at the latest Republican National Convention.

The post did not help Green, as later that night, she took to X once again to reveal that she was taking a break from the platform after receiving death threats.

“I’ve tried to keep my page positive and comedic, but today, a lot changed, and it hit harder than I expected,” Green wrote on Friday night. “The name-calling, the death threats, the faceless accounts. Social media was supposed to be a fun place, and it hasn’t been for a while.

“It’s been overwhelming, and I need to step away for a little bit.”
