The Canadian women’s rugby team is one step closer to making history.

On Saturday, Canada put a thumping on rugby-crazed nation, Australia, during quarter-final action at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Bristol, England.

Asia Hogan-Rochester scored a try barely two minutes into the game for Canada. Australia would tie the game soon after, but that was the only time they’d score in the match.

Canada proceeded to score six more tries en route to a 46-5 thrashing of Australia.

“It’s incredible,” Victoria, B.C. native Sophie de Goede told the media after scoring two tries for Canada in the victory. “We’re just rolling. This is another tick in the box. Real credit to Australia, it was a tough game. We’re looking forward to the semis.”

Canada will now face New Zealand, the defending World Cup champions, in the semi-finals on Friday, Sept. 19. New Zealand defeated South Africa 46-17 earlier in the day to punch their ticket to the semis.

Canada ranks second in the world, behind only England, according to the World Rugby rankings,

The Canadian women’s team is trying to make history by winning their first-ever World Cup. Canada’s best-ever finish was back in 2014, when they lost in the finals to England.

If the rankings are any indication, Canada could get their chance at revenge in the finals, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27.
