Your bank account might be looking a little bare thanks to holiday shopping, but it will look a little fuller soon, with Albertans receiving a fresh round of the Canada Carbon Rebate next week.

TheĀ Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR), formerly known as the Climate Action Incentive payment, is a tax-free amount paid to help individuals and families offset the cost of federal pollution pricing.

Under the federal pollution pricing system, the government puts a price on pollution in regions that do not have their own pricing system, which includes Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ontario.

The Alberta program will provide the following rebate amount to people on January 15:

  • $225 for an individual
  • $112.50 for a spouse or common-law partner
  • $56.25 per child under 18

The rural supplement in Alberta is:

  • $45 for an individual
  • $22.50 for a spouse or common-law partner
  • $11.25 per eligible child under the age of 19
  • $22.50 for the first eligible child in a single-parent family

The rural supplement is 20% of the base amount.

Albertans last received a CCR on October 15. After January 15, the next payment is expected on April 15.
