Calgary Tower to shine in Oilers colours but it's not what you think

The Calgary Tower is going to have some rather unique lighting on Friday night.

The Tower will be lit blue and orange on Friday evening, which coincides with the Edmonton Oilers’ game against the Florida Panthers in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. Calgary Flames fans can breathe, however, as it’s been made clear that this isn’t being done to support their provincial rival.

“Tomorrow night, we’ll be lit orange & blue for the 25th Annual Calgary Brain Tumour Foundation Walk,” the official Calgary Tower account wrote. “We’re proud to support such an important cause.”

To make it all the more clear that this isn’t being done to support the Oilers, they were quick to throw in a lighthearted joke at the end.

“Any correlation to other uses of these colours around this time is, of course, purely coincidental.”

While some in Calgary have decided to support the Oilers in their quest to bring the Stanley Cup back to Canada, others can’t look past the bitter rivalry between the two teams and are instead rooting for the Panthers to win it all for the second straight year.

Although it may be tough for those who despise the Oilers to see their colours on the Calgary Tower this Friday, they can take solace in the fact that it’s being done for a great cause and is completely unrelated to hockey.
