In a provincial health update on Friday, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw clarified the announcement she made on Thursday regarding a confirmed COVID-19 case at Calgary’s YW Sheriff King shelter for women and children.

Dr. Hinshaw stated on Friday that the case was confirmed on Saturday, March 21, and that no new cases have been detected in the facility since then.

Thursday’s announcement marked the first confirmed case of coronavirus in an Alberta shelter.

Hinshaw also stated on Thursday that shelter residents who are sick are required to maintain two metres, even for sleeping spaces, and there are designated isolation spaces set up in shelters or in separate locations.
