Jack Michaels lost his voice mid-game but powered through Edmonton Oilers broadcast

Things didn’t go right for the Edmonton Oilers on the ice or in broadcast booth on Tuesday night.
Sportsnet’s Jack Michaels gave an emphatic call on Connor Clattenburg’s first NHL goal for the Oilers in the second period. It may have been too emphatic as the 51-year-old seemed to lose his voice for a few minutes afterward.
The result was a very hoarse Michaels trying to power through it, while colour commentator Louie DeBrusk attempted to take over the conversation.

The moment wasn’t lost on Michaels, who apologized on air and then, in the second intermission, took to social media to thank fans for their patience.
“Apologies, everyone. Probably wonāt be more elevation the rest of the way,” Michael told fans on social media. “Thanks for bearing with me.”

Considering the veteran American broadcaster’s penchant for exhilarating calls, it’s amazing that it took this long for him to lose his voice in a game.
Fans have come to love Michaels, who has been broadcasting Oilers games since 2010, starting on the radio and moving to TV in 2021.
Luckily, the Oilers broadcaster recovered his voice and got through the rest of the game without any further trouble. It was a gutsy performance from Michaels to stick with it, something that Edmonton should take inspiration from.
