5 best pizza joints in Edmonton based on Google reviews

Oct 21 2020, 8:08 pm

The smell of freshly made pizza, dough being flung into the air, and the chatter of friends catching up are among the things we associate with Edmonton pizza parlours.

But these pizzerias are more than places to get our cheesy, gooey fix; they’re an integral part of our small business community. Aside from adding a sense of vitality to our local neighbourhoods, they’re places that have gradually become a part of our lifestyles.

Pizza shops in Edmonton and across the country are battling the challenges of the pandemic as they arise, and they need our support more than ever. From October 18 to 24, Small Business Week is taking place in Canada, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to support local.

Since it’s tough to narrow down the top spots among our city’s food scene, we’ve rounded up the five best pizza spots based on Google reviews.

Tony’s Pizza Palace

This Italian family–run pizzeria has over 60 years of experience that they’ve poured into a delicious selection of over 15 culturally-influenced pies, such as their classic Margherita or Capricciosa pizzas. Whether you choose to grab a table in the historic location or pick your pie up and enjoy it from your own home, these slices will send your mouth on an authentic tour of Italy. Grab a bottle of wine to complete the experience — and if you somehow manage to save any room, don’t forget dessert.

Google Review: “Hands down the best pizza in Edmonton. A local family owned business that produces the best pizza that I have ever tasted. Friends compare Tony’s flavour to that of NY.”

Edmonton is home to another family-based parlour with LOVEPIZZA, where you can keep it traditionally tasty or try a unique flavour combination such as peaches and blue cheese. No matter what you choose, they currently have four locations to visit in the city, so you’re never far away from picking up or dining in with one of these delicious pizzas (that include vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options). Make sure to check out what feature pizza they’ve come up with for the month, and if you’re picking up from the Canterra or Erin Ridge locations, grab a local beer or cider to pair it with!

Google Review: “Decided to stop in and grab a couple pizzas after driving by this small shop numerous times. I’m glad I did. It’s family owned, and the owner cares about his customers.”

Die Pie

A key player in bursting open the Edmonton vegan food scene in 2017, Die Pie has since earned their reputation of being not just one of the best pizza parlours in the city, but one of the best plant-based restaurants, too. On the menu, you’ll find inspired selections such as their buffalo “chickun” or pickled mac and cheese pizza which will have your mouth watering long after the last slice is gone. Be sure to show up hungry (or get it delivered) so you have room to start off your experience with an appetizer, such as their delectable kimchi bites or loaded nachos.

Google Review: “Die Pie is my new go-to for vegan pizza. I tried both the Buffalo Chicken and the Bacon Mac & Cheese and they were AMAZING.”

Rosso Pizzeria

The moment you enter the cosy atmosphere of Rosso in Edmonton’s historic Garneau district, you’re hit with the authentic smell of the wood-fired forno oven. All of the spot’s Neapolitan pizzas are made with local and organic ingredients whenever possible, so you can feel good about whatever pizza you end up choosing. As for what drinks to pair your pie with, their extensive wine and beer lists make this another difficult but worthwhile task. Make sure you grab some friends and head in early on the weekend to catch their brunch hours for one of three heavenly breakfast pizzas. Alternatively, you can grab takeout and enjoy a pie from the comforts of home.

Google Review: “[Authentic] Italian cuisine. Great taste. Nice decor and amazing ambience.”

For some of the best halal pizza in Edmonton, check out this parlour just south of the Whitemud with a full menu that includes everything from donairs, to wings and fried chicken. While there’s currently no dine-in available, take-out and delivery still make it possible to enjoy their many delicious options from the comfort of your own home. Whether you’re already a fan of one (or more) of the aforementioned pizza parlors or if you’re eager to sample their menu offerings again soon, showing some love with a Google review of your experience goes a long way for the owners — and fellow Edmontonians.

In 2019, a BrightLocal survey reported that 91% of consumers say positive reviews make them more likely to use a business. And by adding a detailed description of the service, photos of the food, or a quick star rating, you’re also doing a good deed for local businesses at a time when it’s needed most.
