With summer in full swing and sunny days ahead, we’re dreaming about the best Edmonton neighbourhoods to enjoy the season.

Whether you’re after bustling urban vibes, a lakefront retreat, or quiet, charming spots close to nature, check out these eight neighbourhoods in Edmonton where you can make the most of summer.

Bonnie Doon

One of our favourite neighbourhoods in Edmonton in the summer is Bonnie Doon. It’s quiet but close to everything — great pubs, restaurants, and shops, plus easy access to the Mill Creek Ravine for shady walks on hot days. We also love the quirky, liminal of the Bonnie Doon Mall, and having the LRT right there makes it super easy to get around the city.

Riverdale is one of the most beautiful spots in Edmonton in the summer. Tucked in the North Saskatchewan River valley, it has a peaceful, tucked-away feel while still being close to downtown. You can wander the scenic river valley trails, stop for coffee at a local cafe, or just soak up the lush greenery and quiet streets.

Highlands

Highlands is such a gem in the summer. Its tree-lined streets and historic homes, including the stunning Magrath Mansion, give it a timeless charm that’s perfect for warm, sunny days. You’ve got easy access to the river valley for walks or bike rides, plus plenty of great local restaurants and shops to check out. It’s the kind of neighbourhood that feels both peaceful and full of life at the same time.

Alberta Avenue really comes alive in the summer. This historic, close-knit neighbourhood has a vibrant, multicultural vibe and a thriving arts scene that spills out onto the streets during festivals and events. It’s also one of the best places in the city to eat, with restaurants serving up flavours from all over the world. There’s always something happening, and the energy here makes it a great place to spend a sunny day.

Who wouldn’t want their own private lake in the summer? Lake Summerside might be a bit farther out in south Edmonton, but it comes with its own beach where you can relax, swim, or paddle all day long. It’s the perfect spot to soak up the sun without leaving your neighbourhood.
