Winter might feel far off right now, but one region in Alberta is already getting attention as one of the best places to be when the snow hits.
The picturesque Town of Banff and nearby Lake Louise just landed a spot on Conde Nast Traveler’s list of the best places in the world to visit in December.
The magazine notes that while summer has drawn crowds in recent years, thanks to the hiking, biking and mountain views, new developments in the area are giving people even more reason to visit in the colder months.
Lake Louise Ski Resort is opening Richardson’s Ridge, a new 200-acre section of intermediate and advanced terrain, along with a high-speed quad lift to match. Beyond the ski hill, Radventures Canada now offers a winter wildlife tracking tour that ends with a ride up the Banff Gondola.

There are also a couple of new spots to warm up and recharge: The Fairmont Château Lake Louise is opening the Basin Glacial Waters Spa in September, an alpine wellness complex with heated pools, glacier-fed hydrotherapy, and steam rooms.
Over in Banff, the Park Lodge is getting a full refresh, including a new spa with a steam room, warm and cold plunge pools, and an indoor pool.
Other picks for a snowy holiday included the Cotswolds in England, Switzerland, and Frankfurt. For those seeking warmer waters in winter, the guide also highlights warmer destinations like Placencia, Belize, Paros in Greece, Malaysia, and Santiago, Chile.
