Analytics site has Edmonton Oilers way ahead of everyone else in Stanley Cup odds

The Edmonton Oilers are the heavy favourites to win the 2025 Stanley Cup, according to an analytics site.

After a rough start to the season, the Oilers have once again found a way to rebound and are now sitting in a tie for seventh in the NHL standings. That has been helped by an amazing 11-3-1 record since the beginning of December, making the Oilers one of the hottest teams in the entire league right now.

Leon Draisaitl has been having a Hart Trophy calibre season and Stuart Skinner has found a way to rediscover his game inside the Edmonton crease. If this keeps up, the Oilers may find a way to have their best season since the 1980s.

It appears that analytics are liking the team as well, with MoneyPuck giving the Oilers a mindboggling 17.3% chance of winning the Stanley Cup, the highest in the NHL. Not only are those the best odds, but they are dominating as the next closest team is the Dallas Stars at 10.6%

The Oilers, having come within a win of the Stanley Cup last season, opened up the season with some of the highest odds but quickly saw them fall as they once again stumbled out of the gate. It was nearly a complete re-hash of their disastrous start to the 2023-24 season, but one that they were able to find a way out of once again.

With Draisaitl leading the way and Connor McDavid continuing to be his usual self, the hope around the team is that they will be able to continue the similarities between this year and last with yet another run to the Stanley Cup Final.

It’s hard to believe that a trip back to the Final would not include a stop in Dallas against the team with the second-highest odds. The Vegas Golden Knights have the third-highest odds in the west at 8.8%, while the upstart Washington Capitals have the best odds out east at 9.7%.

Nobody would be complaining about a Stanley Cup Final featuring McDavid going up against Alex Ovechkin.
