An early spring forecast for the country has been released, and Alberta is looking like a pretty mixed bag.
The Old Farmerās Almanac has released its Canada Spring forecast 2026, predicting a spring that could certainly be worse for Alberta.
The long-standing almanac predicts that much of the country will be wetter than usual. This includes the western Prairies through British Columbia and into the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Newfoundland and Labrador, and southeastern Quebec will also see above-normal precipitation.
“Expect a little snow in early April, as well as periodic rainstorms in May,” the forecast added.
Expect most of Alberta to see a warm spring, with the exception being northeastern Alberta, which is landing in the cool and dry category.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac
“Please note that this spring forecast reflects weather deviations from normal for the spring months of April and May,” the Old Farmer’s Almanac stated.
So while we may see some warmth as we head into the spring, it may be a wet one, which is good news for our wildfire risk rolling into the summer.
