If you’re looking for a quiet spot to ski this winter, you won’t have to travel far, as an Alberta ski resort just took home the title of having the quietest slopes in the world.
The 2026 Snomad Ski Resort Awards have been released, ranking ski resorts around the world across several categories based on 153,854 ratings from skiers and snowboarders during the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Castle Mountain, which is located just northwest of Pincher Creek, was named the best in the world for quiet slopes, with a rating of 4.86 out of five.
“The remote location near the Alberta-Montana border means you’re genuinely escaping the masses that clog up the big-name resorts,” Snomad said.

Skiers and snowboarders praised the resort for its uncrowded runs, relaxed atmosphere, and abundance of fresh powder. Many highlighted the opportunity to enjoy the mountain without the long lift lines and busy slopes found at larger resorts, making it easier to find untouched snow throughout the day.
Ruka in Finland took second place, followed by British Columbia’s Kimberley Alpine Resort. Quietest slopes wasn’t the only award Castle Mountain took home this year; it was also the best resort for value in North America, with a score of 4.59 out of five.
“Whilst the mega-resorts down the road will have you remortgaging for a day ticket, Castle keeps things refreshingly affordable without sacrificing the goods. Snomad users consistently praise the ‘excellent value’ here,” Snowmad said.
Castle Mountain isn’t a stranger to the spotlight when it comes to global awards. Last year it was named among the best small ski resorts in the world.
If you’re looking to check out Castle Mountain this year, its tentative opening date is set for Friday, Dec. 4, 2026.
