Several Alberta hospitals named among the world’s best for 2026
Several Alberta hospitals have been named among the world’s best for 2026, with two ranking among the top 40 globally for pediatric care.
The rankings, released by Newsweek and Statista, highlight the leading hospitals around the world across 12 medical fields.
The rankings were compiled using a worldwide online survey from May to July 2025 and are based on recommendations from medical professionals, accreditation data, certifications, and patient-reported outcomes.
Alberta hospitals stood out in the pediatrics category, with the province’s two major children’s hospitals ranking high on the list.
The Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary ranked 12th in the world for pediatrics, just below the Seoul National University Hospital in South Korea.
Edmonton’s Stollery Children’s Hospital was 40th globally for pediatrics. The hospital’s cardiac capabilities were highlighted as a standout treatment.
The top-ranked hospital for pediatrics was the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Its standout treatments included neonatology and oncology.

Other Canadian children’s hospitals to make the list included BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, which ranked eighth in the world. IWK Health Centre in Halifax was 62nd, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa was 75th, and CHU Sainte-Justine in Montreal was 76th.
Outside of pediatrics, two other Alberta hospitals received recognition in the rankings.
Calgary’s Foothills Medical Centre ranked 114th globally for endocrinology, 121st for orthopedics, and 211th for cardiology.

Meanwhile, the nearby Tom Baker Cancer Centre ranked 293rd globally for oncology.
