7 high-scoring players Edmonton Oilers could target in free agency

Free agency is less than a month away, and the Edmonton Oilers will have their work cut out for them.

The heat is on GM Stan Bowman to get the Oilers back as a legitimate Stanley Cup contender next season. Connor McDavid has just two more seasons under contract in the Alberta capital, and next season could make or break his long-term future with the Oilers.

Goaltending has been the main concern around Edmonton for years, and the expectation is that position will be dealt with this summer, but it’s far from the only need for the Oilers. Depth scoring was a big issue for Edmonton last season, with McDavid and Draisaitl doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

The big guns need some help on the offensive side of the puck. Adding another high-scoring forward to the roster should be a priority this offseason if the team is serious about contending for the Stanley Cup.

Bowman could go the trade route to do that, with Jordan Kyrou being a potential target on that front, or he could see what free agency has to offer.

Here are seven high-scoring free agents that the Oilers could target…

1. Alex Tuch

Age: 30
2025-26 stats: 33 G, 33 A, 66 PTS, 79 GP
Previous cap hit: $4.75 million

The biggest UFA in the 2026 class is Buffalo Sabres sniper Alex Tuch, and he’d fit like a glove on the Oilers.

Tuch is coming off a great year where he helped the Sabres to their first playoff berth in over a decade. He’s got a fantastic shot and carries an imposing six-foot-four, 219-pound frame, exactly the kind of player that Edmonton is looking for.

The issue here is that the New York native is reportedly asking for a massive raise in the $10 to $11 million range on a long-term deal. Considering the Oilers’ cap situation, that would be very difficult to maneuver.

2. Anthony Mantha

Age: 31
2025-26 stats: 33 G, 31 A, 64 PTS, 81 GP
Previous cap hit: $2.5 million

Anthony Mantha proved that he had no rust after missing most of the 2024-25 season with an injury.

He inked a one-year show-me deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and did he ever show. He notched career-highs in goals, assists, and points, all of which will likely lead to a healthy raise on his next contract.

Mantha is also a big frame at six-foot-five, 240 pounds, and signed with the Calgary Flames a few summers ago, showing he’s not averse to playing in Alberta.

3. Bobby McMann

Age: 29
2025-26 stats: 29 G, 17 A, 46 PTS, 78 GP
Previous cap hit: $1.35 million

Trade rumours swirled last season between the Oilers and Bobby McMann, but it was the Seattle Kraken who ultimately acquired him from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Alberta native is set to get a major raise this summer after putting up just under 30 goals last season. McMann fits the bill as a high-scoring middle-six winger that Edmonton could plug-and-play on any of the top-three lines.

There will be plenty of interest across the league, but the Oilers have the unique advantage of being his hometown team growing up.

4. Vladimir Tarasenko

Age: 34
2025-26 stats: 23 G, 24 A, 47 PTS, 75 GP
Previous cap hit: $4.75 million

Vladimir Tarasenko is the legacy player on this list.

He might not be the dominant goal-scorer that he was in his prime, but the Russian sniper still has some juice left in his mid-30s. Tarasenko is still a talented goal-scorer and is more than capable of putting up decent goal totals late into his career.

His shot is as deadly as ever and could easily find the back of the net while getting fed passes from either McDavid or Draisaitl. Tarasenko likely won’t come in at an unreasonable number and probably won’t be looking for super-long term on his next deal.

5. Mason Marchment

Age: 30
2025-26 stats: 19 G, 26 A, 45 PTS, 68 GP
Previous cap hit: $4.5 million

Mason Marchment may be the perfect blend of skilled and annoying that the Oilers lacked last season.

The Ontario native knows how to get under the skin of opponents better than anyone on this list, and it’s a trait that the Oilers have lacked since the departure of Evander Kane. Marchment can also back it up, being a pretty consistent scorer over the past several seasons.

At six-foot-five, 212 pounds, there is no question he’d be an imposing addition to Edmonton’s roster.

6. Jack Roslovic

Age: 29
2025-26 stats: 21 G, 15 A, 36 PTS, 69 GP
Previous cap hit: $1.5 million

The Oilers know what they are getting with Jack Roslovic, so why not stick with him?

Roslovic was a pleasant surprise for the Oilers, ending the season as one of the team’s top goal-scorers, but he fell off in the playoffs. There was an air of inconsistency about his game last season that rubbed some the wrong way, but his boxcars will likely draw him a big raise somewhere this summer.

It’s hard to argue he didn’t bring value as a middle-six scorer in the Alberta capital last season.

7. A.J. Greer

Age: 29
2025-26 stats: 17 G, 15 A, 32 PTS, 78 GP
Previous cap hit: $850K

A.J. Greer was another player who had plenty of trade rumours connecting him to Edmonton last season.

Oilers fans are familiar with Greer, who played the role of the agitator on the Florida Panthers 2024 squad, but he broke out offensively last year. He will need to prove that last year wasn’t a fluke, but if he can, he’d have a bunch of attractive qualities for Edmonton.

Greer is big at six-foot-three, 209 lbs, annoying to play against, and should come relatively cheap compared to some others on this list.
