
The deadly shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., has sparked an outpouring of condolences and support from across Canada and beyond.
On Tuesday afternoon, police responded to reports of a shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. B.C. RCMP said that the incident left 10 people dead and many others injured, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
On Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with reporters at a media scrum, stating that it’s “a very difficult day for the nation.”
“This morning, parents, grandparents, sisters, [and] brothers in Tumbler Ridge will wake up without someone they love. The nation mourns with you. Canada stands by you,” he said. “I want to thank and pass on a number of world leaders who’ve reached out directly to me in solidarity and compassion. France, the United Kingdom, his majesty himself, Norway, Finland, India, the United Arab Emirates, and many others. The world is with you.”
Several world leaders took to social media to express their support and sympathy.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi said that the country “stands in solidarity with the people of Canada in this moment of profound grief.”

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim said that the city stands with Tumbler Ridge, stating, “No community should ever have to experience a tragedy of this nature.”

“We are heartbroken by the news of the horrific school shooting that occurred in British Columbia,” reads the statement. “Our thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones, those who are injured, and the entire Tumbler Ridge community. Team Canada stands with everyone affected as they navigate difficult days ahead.”
Condolences and messages of support also poured in from around the world.
In a message shared on X, King Charles III stated, “We can only begin to imagine the appalling shadow that has now descended across Tumbler Ridge.”
