If you’re already looking into travel plans for next year, a new forecast reveals where Canadians are looking to go beyond the usual popular destinations.
Canadian tour operator G Adventures has just shared its eight travel destinations to watch in 2027, with a focus on places that offer travellers something beyond the usual hot spots. The company specializes in small-group trips and works with local communities to encourage more sustainable tourism in over 100 countries.
After comparing Canadian bookings made between Nov. 1, 2025, and Oct. 31, 2026, with bookings from the previous year, the company shared a round-up of eight destinations seeing a surge in interest.
“As we look ahead to 2027, some destinations are capturing travellers’ imaginations for the first time, while others are inviting us to look at familiar favourites through a fresh lens,” reads the statement. “Think ancient trade routes waiting to be rediscovered, European wildernesses far from the crowds, and tropical islands that offer so much more than a sun lounger.”
Looking to travel beyond the beaten path? These are the eight destinations gaining popularity among Canadian travellers.
China

Early this year, China announced visa-free travel for Canadians from Feb. 17 to Dec. 31. Since then, G Adventures has seen bookings jump by 83 per cent. While the Great Wall is an obvious must-see, there’s more to explore, from sweeping desert landscapes to the ancient Mogao Caves in Gansu province.

Interest in Central Asia is growing — G Adventures has reported an 82 per cent increase in bookings for Uzbekistan and a 32 per cent jump for Kyrgyzstan. Travellers can explore the region’s rugged mountain trails and alpine lakes, while also getting a closer look at the rich craftsmanship, from traditional textiles to ceramics.
Egypt

Increased interest in Egypt has seen bookings go up by an impressive 106 per cent, coinciding with the full opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum and the upcoming total solar eclipse, “the eclipse of the century,” above Luxor on Aug. 2, 2027.
Norway

Bookings are up 23 per cent for Norway, partly due to more direct flights and tourists wanting to experience the northern lights. While the country is a popular cruise destination, there’s plenty for more adventurous visitors to explore on land. Lace up your boots and head out on a blue-ice glacier hike for a closer look at Norway’s dramatic landscape.
The Balkans

The Balkans are poised to be the next must-see region in Europe. Albania has seen a 51 per cent increase in bookings, while bookings are up 16 per cent in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Travellers can get a taste of the region’s local cuisine, wander through traditional villages, and take in its rich cultural heritage.
Vietnam

According to G Adventures, it has added several new unique itineraries in Vietnam as it anticipates more bookings following an agreement between Canada and Vietnam to expand direct flights in 2027. Visit small towns in the northwestern region and learn new skills like rice paper crafting.
The Seychelles

Getting to the Seychelles, an archipelago in the western Indian Ocean, might take a full day of travel, but the long journey could be well worth it. Beyond its luxurious resorts and beautiful beaches, the island nation has plenty of adventure to offer, including hiking, kayaking, and catamaran sailing.
Greece

Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos consistently draw massive crowds, so they’re hardly off-the-beaten-path destinations. In fact, parts of Greece continue to struggle with overtourism. But travellers looking to escape the crowds can find plenty more to explore in the country’s northern mainland, with its mountain trails, lush forests, and traditional villages.
