Canadians soon have to pay an extra fee when booking with Sunwing
Sunwing is the latest travel company to add an extra fee to its bookings as jet fuel prices rise amid the Iran-United States war.
The WestJet subsidiary that offers all-inclusive vacation packages sent emails to travellers notifying them of an upcoming fuel surcharge.
“Due to increased fuel costs, a fuel surcharge of $50 per person will apply to all Sunwing Vacations bookings made as of April 14, 2026,” reads the email obtained by Daily Hive.
According to the notice, bookings made before 11:59 p.m. EDT on April 13 will not be subject to the surcharge. Existing bookings will also remain unaffected.
“We know this impacts travel planning, and we wanted to make sure you had the information ahead of time,” stated Sunwing.

Its parent company, WestJet, also implemented a fuel surcharge on Wednesday, April 8, on all bookings made with a companion voucher.
Sunwing is one of a growing list of businesses that have added an extra fee to its bookings. Other travel companies that have introduced a fuel surcharge include Porter, Air Canada Vacations, and Flair Airlines.
Despite the two-week ceasefire the U.S. and Iran have agreed to, the Strait of Hormuz blockade has not ended. The crucial passage way for one-fifth of the world’s oil supply was shut down by Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, in March, causing oil prices and, therefore, jet fuel costs to spike.
