How Canadians are making the most out of their daily commute

Let’s be real, how many hours a week do you spend commuting from one place to another? Unless you work from home every day, it’s probably a decent amount. More if you’re on the go during peak rush hours.

Findings from the SiriusXM Canadian Commute Study show that 35 per cent of Canadians report that their commute has gotten worse in the past year, with 41 per cent describing it as stressful.

Commuters in Ontario and Alberta are most likely to find their commute stressful. But on the flip side, there’s Québec. While Québec reports the longest commute times, 28 per cent of Québecois commuters reported using this time to relax.

So, let’s reframe. If you can’t avoid your daily travels, why not embrace them?

Whether driving, riding, or walking to work, Canadian commuters know how to make the most of it, with 85 per cent listening to some form of audio while on the move and 73 per cent agreeing that it makes their trip feel shorter.

SiriusXM makes the journey worthwhile, with 425+ channels to keep you company through every gridlock and detour. From music and comedy to news and sports, SiriusXM is a one-stop shop for every audio you can think of.

With hundreds of channels, exclusive shows, and on-demand options, SiriusXM offers something for everyone, including ad-free music for every taste and preference, talk, comedy, news, sports, and more — anytime, anywhere.

Your audio of choice

Are you among the 74 per cent of Canadians who listen to music on their way? Better yet, are you in the 13 per cent who have taken the long way home just to keep listening? Enjoy all of your favourite genres and stations ad-free.

More of a podcast person? One in four commuters is the same. Enjoy original podcasts from your favourite hosts and hot providers like ESPN, NPR, HBO, Marvel, and more.

Or, make the most of your time in transit by listening to the news, like 28 per cent of commuters. It’s the simplest way to stay up-to-date on current events — no doomscrolling required.

And no need to stress about getting home too late to watch your sport of choice, because the NFL, NHL, NBA, CFL, MLB, MLS, and PGA all offer game-time play-by-play commentary as well as insider commentary, trade information, analysis, and more.

Keeping your commute Canadian

SiriusXM isn’t just any broadcaster. It’s a Canadian broadcaster that prides itself on amplifying Canadian voices and content for the last 20 years. This means listeners can enjoy 23 Canadian-produced channels from coast to coast.

Your commute is only as good as you make it. Take DJ duties into your own hands, and take back the time you spend on the go by doing — or rather, hearing — more of what you enjoy. Try SiriusXM for yourself, in your car or on the app.

*Survey Methodology: These findings are from a survey conducted by SiriusXM from Sep. 15 to Sep. 17, 2025, among a representative sample of 1504 online adult Canadians who are members of the Angus Reid Forum. The survey was conducted in English and French. For comparison purposes only, a probability sample of this size would carry a margin of error of +/-2.53 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
