For more than 30 years, the World Travel Awards have celebrated the best in travel, from airlines and hotels to resorts, cruise lines and tour operators. And this year, Canada got some love.
The awards ceremony, held in Jamaica this year, recognized top travel and hospitality brands across Central, South and North America, handing out titles for everything from leading airlines and city break destinations to green hotels and theme park resorts.
While Canada didn’t exactly dominate the North American categories, it had plenty to celebrate on its own, with 15 titles up for grabs, including Canada’s Leading Hotel Suite.
This year, that honour went to the Royal Suite at The Ritz-Carlton Montreal. It’s the fifth year the suite has been awarded the title, so clearly it’s doing something right.
First opened in 1912, the downtown Montreal hotel underwent a massive $200-million renovation in 2012, cementing its reputation as one of the city’s most luxurious stays.
It’s also no stranger to famous faces. Hollywood royalty Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton got married in the hotel once (the couple wed each other twice in their lifetime, believe it or not!).
Other celebrities that have stayed at the ritzy hotel, according to local newspapers, include Charlize Theron, Jennifer Aniston, and Sophia Loren.
The hotel bills itself as a European-inspired retreat, and with its own advanced spa, indoor saltwater pool overlooking the skyline and Dom Pérignon Bar, the only one of its kind in North America.
The real showstopper is the award-winning Royal Suite, which the hotel says is the largest in the city.

The Ritz-Carlton Montreal
Spanning 4,700 square feet, the three-bedroom, four-bathroom suite comes with marble fireplaces and bathrooms, oversized bathtubs, two-person Whirlpools, walk-in closets, and soundproof windows.

Guests can also enjoy butler service, something usually reserved for five-star spots. Just imagine soaking in the tub and drinking champagne while looking out at the lit-up city.

There’s also a separate living room and a dining room with a table that seats 10 that’s perfect for hosting a dinner party, if you happen to have nine equally rich friends.

The bedrooms bring a touch of old-school glamour, making the whole place feel less like a hotel room and more like a ridiculously chic private residence.

Of course, all this luxury comes at a price. According to the hotel’s website, a night in the Royal Suite will set you back a cool $12,000.
Sure, that’s a little steep for the average Canadian earning around $68,000 a year, but we can’t think of a better place for the cast of The White Lotus to check in on an upcoming season.
