It was a hard-fought campaign, but Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada fell short.

Following the projected results, Poilievre had some words for his followers.

“We could not be more grateful for the opportunity Canadians have given us,” said Poilievre.

“It will be an honour to continue to fight for you and to be a champion for your cause.”

After Poilievre said that, his followers began chanting, “Bring it home!”

He took the time to thank his wife for her support on the campaign trail. He also had a message for his fellow Conservative Party members, saying there was much to celebrate.

“We are cognizant of the fact that we didn’t quite get over the finish line yet. We know that change is needed, but change is hard to come by. It takes time. It takes work. And that’s why we have to learn the lessons of tonight to have an even better result the next time.”

Poilievre ran for leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada in 2022, winning that by a landslide.

Poilievre was a frontrunner to become the next Prime Minister of Canada up until the beginning of this year, when Justin Trudeau was still the leader of the Liberal Party. Numerous consecutive polls in 2024 showed a huge advantage for the Conservative Party of Canada.

“Vote for Change” was the Conservative Party’s motto, as Poilievre blamed the Liberal Party of Canada and Trudeau for most of the country’s issues.

The tables began to turn after Trudeau resigned and Mark Carney was declared the new Liberal Party leader and prime minister.

Poilievre stayed on the attack even when Carney took over. However, one early and repeated campaign attack in which Poilievre called Carney “Carbon Tax Carney” backfired as one of Carney’s first political moves after being named Liberal leader was axing the tax.

At one point during his concession speech, the crowd began to boo Carney but Poilievre quickly quieted their boos. As Poilievre began to conclude his speech, he spoke of the various stories he’s heard from people across the country, saying they touched his heart.

“I will continue to fight for them, every day, and every day we will never give up on fighting for the Canadian people.”
