Canadians in need of a pick-me-up can livestream puppies all day — seriously

If home, work, or just life in general is getting you down, we have some good news: six ridiculously cute Finnish puppies are here to help.

Let’s face it, it’s getting harder to keep it together these days. Between political chaos, climate disasters, and whatever fresh hell the news cycle has cooked up this morning, we could all use a break.

While we can’t exactly log off from the real world, we can spend a few minutes (okay, a few hours) watching puppies snuggle, nap, and generally be much less stressed than the rest of us.

Pentulive is a free 24/7 livestream from Finland’s national public broadcaster, Yle, that’s giving everyone a much-needed dose of puppy therapy. We’re talking hours upon hours of tiny, fluffy, snoozy, wiggly goodness.

For the sixth year in a row, viewers from around the world are tuning in to watch six newborn pups cuddle up together, with live cameras capturing their every move from the anonymous breeder’s home.

When the first Pentulive was streamed in 2021, it monitored a gorgeous Labrador Retriever named Akka and her nine puppies.

For the most part, the puppies this season seem to spend their days napping (jealous!), and it seems the world really does care about this kind of content.

Yle said the current season of Pentulive is on track to break previous viewing records. Since the puppies were born on Oct. 10, the livestream racked up more than one million hours of viewing time, while all related content attracted 1.85 million unique viewers so far.

And while they may be Finnish by birth, they’re Italian by design. The six puppies are Lagotto Romagnolos, an Italian breed which the American Kennel Club says is known for thick, curly coats, energetic personalities, and truffle-hunting abilities.

They don’t shed, rarely ever bark, and are very easy to train. They are perfect for families with little ones, quickly becoming the ultimate “lovey-dovey” companion to everyone in the house.

On the livestream, there are four males and two females, and while their mom, Hilkka, is currently on “maternity leave,” she does pop up on camera from time to time. They currently don’t have names, but the broadcaster says they’re getting named on Saturday, so stay tuned for that.

The puppy livestream is expected to run for eight weeks until mid-December, when the little ones will be old enough to get adopted and get out to their new homes.

Until then, consider this your official permission to take a break from all the doomscrolling. The news will still be there when you get back. The puppies, well, they might still be sleeping.
