A huge lottery win has one player cracking jokes — instead of calling in sick, she can now “call in rich.”
Lorna Wilson is a retail worker who lives in Niagara Falls, Ont. The mother and grandmother said she’s been playing the lottery for the past four years. She often buys tickets twice a week, playing her favourite games like Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, and Plinko.
“I love the interactive element of Plinko when I win an in-store Chip Drop,” she said.
After buying a $5 Instant Plinko ticket, Wilson realized she had won something and headed to the store to have her ticket validated.

“I had a Plinko ticket that I had won a Chip prize on, so I decided to check it at the store after my shift,” she recalled. “As I watched the animated Plinko game on the lottery terminal screen, I was hoping to win $20. When the Chip landed in the centre of the board, I thought, ‘No way!’ The most I’d ever won before this was $20.”
Wilson had won the Drop, which meant that she would have to head to the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto, where she had the chance to win between $100,000 and $500,000.
On the day of her live event, she approached the Plinko board, stating that it was just what she had expected.
“I’ve watched a few Plinko videos online, so I have an idea of where I want to place the Chip. I feel very good!” she said.

After a brief countdown, she dropped her Chip and waited as the crowd cheered her on. All eyes were on the board as the Chip bounced through the pegs before finally landing on a prize of $300,000. Unable to stop smiling, Wilson said she was surprised by her big win.
“I always joked that I needed a winning ticket because I wanted to call into work rich,” she quipped.
With her windfall, she said she’ll buy a new home that she plans to fill with warm memories.

“I want to enjoy making meals for my family in my new kitchen,” she shared. “This win will definitely impact my quality of life.”
Her win reminded her of something her dad used to say.
“I remember my dad would always say, ‘You can’t win if you don’t play,’ so I played… and I won!” said Wilson.
