One Canadian woman couldn’t believe her luck after her husband gave her a lottery ticket that led to a shocking lifetime win.
Karine Dagenais is a Montérégie, Que., resident in her forties. One day, her spouse gave her a gift: a Gagnant à vie limited edition lottery ticket. The scratch ticket costs $10 per play, and the top prize is $1,000 a week for life.
Dagenais played her ticket and discovered that she won $10. She then used her winnings to buy another Gagnant à vie lottery ticket, a decision that led to a series of small wins that continued until the eighth ticket.

While playing her ticket, she discovered something unusual.
“In the first box of Game 1, I saw the VIE symbol… once, twice, then three times. I thought to myself, ‘No, no, there’s no way!'” said Dagenais.
She had won the game’s top prize: $1,000 a week for life.
Dagenais immediately ran to the bathroom to tell her spouse.
“I shouted, ‘Marco, Marco! I won!’ But he didn’t understand,” she recalled. “I ended up sticking the winning ticket against the shower door!”

Although Loto-Quebec doesn’t disclose the winner’s decision, Dagenais can choose between annuity payments of $1,000 a week for life or a non-taxable lump sum of $1,000,000.
When asked what she plans to do with her winnings, she said she wants to use the money to travel and spend more time with her husband.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Familiprix pharmacy on Boulevard Fiset in Sorel-Tracy. The retailer will receive a 1 per cent commission of $10,000.
