Forget Disneyland — Canadian lottery winner wants to attend 'The Price Is Right' taping

While many lottery winners plan European vacations or tropical escapes, one Canadian winner has a very different celebration in mind.

Lottery player Joelle Plante is a Barrie, Ont., resident and teacher who’s set to retire this year. She said she’s never won anything big besides a vacation.

“The only thing I’ve ever won before this was a trip on the radio 15 years ago,” shared the 60-year-old.

One day during the holidays, she decided to try her luck by buying a $20 Instant Gift Pack while at a Shoppers Drugmart.

“I thought I’d treat myself before Christmas,” she recalled.

When she finally got the chance to check her ticket using the OLG app, Plante realized she had won and found herself staring at the screen in shock. The Instant Gift Pack landed her a $100,000 prize.

“Generally, I’m a very calm person — a trait I’ve learned as a fifth-grade teacher with a classroom of 28 kids,” Plante shared, while claiming her cheque at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “But in that moment, I sang to myself, ‘I won $100,000!'”

She said that the news left her daughters in disbelief.

“The moment my husband stepped through the door, I told him as well, with a huge smile on my face,” she stated. “He was very happy for me.”

Plante said she wants to fulfill her dream by travelling to Hawaii and Australia, but there’s also something else she’d like to add to the list.

“I’d also love to go to California to watch a taping of The Price Is Right,” she said.

The Price Is Right is an American TV show hosted by Drew Carey, where contestants guess the prices of products to win.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart on Cundles Road East in Barrie.
