A Canadian lottery player is enjoying peace of mind and greater financial security after a big win.
Jennifer Cohoe is a mother and a teacher who lives in Welland, Ont. She said she’s been a loyal lottery player for about 30 years. She said she exclusively plays Lotto 6/49, and when she does, she makes sure to add Encore. One day, while out shopping with her son, she decided to try her luck by buying a Lotto 6/49 ticket.
“I was checking my tickets at home one morning when I discovered I’d won big,” she recalled. “I was shocked and yelled for my husband, saying, ‘I think I won $1 million!’ We were both very happy and surprised.”
After matching the Encore numbers 7899948 in the Aug. 16 Lotto 6/49 draw, Cohoe won the $1 million top prize.

She said that she called her sister to share the incredible news, and as the supportive sister, she came over to help her enjoy the moment.
“She was also shocked and excited,” said Cohoe. “She came over to our house with champagne to celebrate!”
While at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto, she shared that she’ll put her money towards investments and is planning a family vacation. But more importantly, now that she has $1 million in her bank account, she’s looking forward to finally paying off her mortgage.
“I feel very fortunate,” Cohoe stated. “Being a winner takes your breath away.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Kay’s Korner Variety on Thorold Road in Welland.
The next Lotto 6/49 draw is set for Saturday, Oct. 4, and the Gold Ball prize is worth $30 million.
