Some Canadian lotto players wait years until they score a big win. For others, the first time’s the charm.
Cassidy Sparling of Vernon, BC, fell into the latter category after winning $100,000 on a Mega scratch-and-win ticket.
It was her first-ever lottery ticket and she discovered that she won while dogsitting for a friend.
“I was on my friend’s couch in the living room,” said Sparling, adding that she used BCLC’s Lotto! App to double-check. “It took a while to process and I’m still processing it.”

The Okanagan resident purchased the Mega ticket at the Superstore on Anderson Way on a whim, and couldn’t wait to tell her family the good news.
“My mom was the first one I told and then my brother called me right after I texted him,” she explained. “They were both very excited.”
Sparling shared that she has been saving up to buy her first home and that the majority of the prize will be put towards a house in the near future.
“This prize means a lot and it’s going to change my life drastically.”
