A Canadian lottery winner has taken home a lump sum payment after scoring a Daily Grand second prize, and he’s finally ready to retire.
New lottery winner Brian Powers is a Toronto resident who says he enjoys playing Daily Grand. The game costs $3 per play and comes with five numbers and a grand number that players must match to win the coveted grand prize: $1,000 a day for life.
One day, Powers decided to try his luck by purchasing a Daily Grand ticket.

He recalled how he was checking the winning numbers one morning when the results made him pause.
“I checked twice to make sure I was seeing things correctly,” he said.
But Powers wasn’t seeing things.
During the Oct. 30 draw, he had matched all five main numbers to win the Daily Grand second prize of $25,000 a year for life.
“The first person I told was my wife,” said Powers. “I told her to bring her glasses so she could check the numbers, too — we were both in shock!”
When it came to choosing how he would receive his winnings, he skipped the annuity payments in favour of a lump sum payout of $250,000. Now a quarter of a million dollars richer, Powers said he can finally retire. He also wants to enjoy his winnings by travelling to Alaska with his wife.

While at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto, he said, “When I was younger, I spent some time out west, so I’d like to show her around and maybe visit the Yukon. Winning is a great feeling.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Richmond Grocery on Bridge Street West in Napanee.
