Canadian throwing party to surprise wife with big lottery win
An Ontario lottery player plans on surprising his wife with his big lottery win.
Saying “yes” to Encore paid off for Niagara Falls resident Arthur Atkinson. He matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Jan. 4, 2025, Ontario 49 draw to win $100,000.
The optometrist has been playing the lottery with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for 20 years.

He enjoys playing a variety of jackpot games, using OLG’s Quick Pick feature to make his selections. Regardless of which game he plays, the father of four and grandfather of four always says “yes” to Encore. His consistency has led him to his first major win.
Atkinson says he returned to the store a few days after he had bought his lottery ticket.
“When I realized I’d won big, I must have said ‘wow’ 50 times! I was just so grateful. This prize is truly a blessing,” he recalled while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.
The dad and grandpa has an exciting idea to reveal his big win to his family.
“Currently, my wife is on a cruise, so when she returns, I’m going to throw a big reveal party with my close friends and family,” he said with a smile. “It will be a long wait, but it’ll be worth it.”
Atkinson has been manifesting this win for years.
“Winning is a dream come true,” he beamed. “I’ve had a feeling for many years that I would win, and my time has finally come. It’s amazing!”
With his lottery windfall, Atkinson plans to help those in need, complete some home renovations and invest.
He bought his winning ticket at Avondale on Montrose Road in Niagara Falls.
Atkinson isn’t the only person celebrating a massive win.
