Big wins in weekend lottery draw make Canadians millionaires

It was a life-changing weekend for several Canadian lottery players who each landed major prizes.

The biggest lottery prize won over the weekend was the $5-million Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw on Saturday, May 2. According to OLG, the winning ticket matched the six winning numbers 10, 14, 19, 28, 38, and 44. The lucky ticket was sold in Stoney Creek, Ont.

It really was a winning weekend for several Ontario lottery players.

One resident won a $1-million Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball prize after buying their ticket in London, Ont., while someone from Kitchener won the Classic Draw second prize worth $222,790.70. A total of 71 Canadians will split the third prize, with each receiving $1,317.60

In B.C., no one won the $500,000, and in Ontario, no one scored the $1-million Encore prize.

The Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball jackpot was at $38 million, and the last time someone scored the top prize was on March 11, when a lottery player from Ontario matched the numbers to score a $44-million prize. The next Lotto 6/49 draw is on Wednesday, May 6, and the Gold Ball prize is now at $40 million.

The Lotto Max jackpot is continuing to climb, and the top prize was at $60 million during the Friday, May 1 draw. No one won the jackpot or the second prize worth $246,228.90. The third prize will be split between 43 people who each won $5,834.60.

Someone from the Atlantic provinces took home the biggest Lotto Max prize won during the draw: a $1-million Maxmillions prize. The winning numbers were 1, 3, 7, 16, 29, 36, and 39.

There were 60 MaxPlus prizes to be won, each worth $100,000, with winning tickets sold in Sidney, B.C.; Saskatoon, Sask.; the Atlantic provinces; Quebec; Alberta; as well as two from Ontario.

On April 7, someone won a life-changing $75-million Lotto Max jackpot after purchasing their ticket in Penticton, a small city in the Okanagan Valley of B.C.

The next draw is on Tuesday, May 5, and the jackpot is now at $65 million with eight Maxmillions prizes and 65 MaxPlus prizes.
