Canadian lottery player wakes up $46 million richer
A Canadian lottery player’s life was transformed overnight after winning a massive jackpot.
The Lotto 6/49 draw took place on Wednesday, Aug. 27, and the Gold Ball jackpot was worth $46 million. Someone managed to match the winning number 77214145-02, resulting in a life-changing win.
A release from Loto-Québec stated, “The $46 million Gold Ball Jackpot in yesterday’s Lotto 6/49 draw was won with a ticket sold in Québec!”

The Classic Draw winning numbers were 05, 16, 17, 21, 41, and 47, with a bonus of 06; however, no one won the $5 million prize. Someone in Ontario won the Classic Draw second prize after matching five of the six winning numbers and the bonus number. They’ll be taking home a prize worth $226,746.10. The third prize will be split between 81 lottery players across Canada after they matched five of the six winning numbers. Each will receive their share worth $1,175.50.
In B.C., no one won the $500,000 Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw Extra prize. However, in Ontario, one lottery player matched the Encore winning number 2549804 to win the $1 million prize.
The last time someone won the jackpot was on June 21, when a couple from Cache Bay, Ont., won the $34 million jackpot.
Joe and Lise Menard have a Friday date night tradition, which involves dinner, a stop at the store to buy their weekly lottery tickets, and spending the rest of the drive home musing about their hopes and dreams.

Lise said she was in disbelief when she saw the winning message on her phone.
“I almost had a heart attack. I kept saying ‘Joe! Joe! Joe!’ At first, he thought we had won $34,000, and I kept telling him to look at all the zeros!” she recalled.
