Bell, Telus internet outage happening in multiple provinces

May 21 2025, 2:25 pm

Update May 21, 2025, at 10:22 a.m. ET: It looks like service is returning for some. My Bell internet is working again in Hamilton, and others at MobileSyrup and our parent company, ZoomerMedia, report their service is coming back online too.

Bell, Telus, and other Canadian internet service providers (ISPs) appear to be having a massive internet outage impacting multiple provinces.

Shortly after 9 a.m. ET on May 21, 2025, reports of outages at the Big Three spiked across social media and on outage reporting site Downdetector.ca. The outage is also impacting flanker brands, and even wholesale providers like TekSavvy, which uses Rogers lines, appear to be having issues.

At the time of writing, the outage primarily seems to impact wireline internet services, with mobile service still functioning for some. However, MobileSyrup has received reports of spotty mobile connections as well.

MobileSyrup reached out to Bell, Rogers, and Telus about the outage.

Rogers spokesperson Zac Carreiro said the company wasn’t seeing an outage but was monitoring the situation. However, we’ve received mixed reports from customers, with some saying their internet is fine and others saying they’re having an outage or experiencing slower-than-usual speeds. Downdetector also shows issues at Rogers primarily impacting B.C., Ontario, and Quebec.

Bell said in a post on Twitter that it was experiencing an outage in Ontario and Quebec. In an email to MobileSyrup, the company echoed its Twitter post, saying, “Some customers in Ontario and Quebec may be experiencing an internet outage. Our network team is investigating, and we’ll provide updates as soon as they’re available.”

Telus has a service status page on its website that confirms issues in Alberta, B.C., and Eastern Canada. However, Telus’ website says the outages are primarily related to wireless service and not internet. The company says it’s working to restore services.
