Earn double if you sell furniture back to IKEA Canada in October

Planning to get rid of old furniture from IKEA Canada? Instead of throwing it away, you might want to consider selling it back to the retailer.

As part of Circular Economy Month, IKEA Canada is inviting customers to reflect on how the furniture they no longer need can find new life in someone else’s home.

“Circular Economy Month is a reminder that even small changes at home can have a meaningful impact,” said Selwyn Crittendon, CEO and chief sustainability officer. “These initiatives reflect our commitment to a more circular future where products are reused, repurposed, and rehomed to support both people and the planet.”

From Oct. 1 to 31, the company’s sell-back program is offering double the sell-back value on eligible products.

The sell-back program allows customers to return used items to IKEA Canada. The retailer buys back the well-loved furniture, paying the customer in store credits.

According to the company, its sell-back program saw over 13,000 successful submissions last year.

How the IKEA Canada sell-back program works

If you’re unfamiliar with the program, here’s a quick primer.

You’ll first have to submit an application on the sell-back program page to check how much in-store credit you’ll receive for your used products. To participate in the program, you must be an IKEA Family member.

You’ll receive an estimate about three to five days after submitting your application. If your submission is approved, you’ll have 30 days to bring the assembled furniture to an IKEA Canada near you.

The store’s exchange and returns will examine the condition of your furniture and provide a final price, which the company says can differ from the original estimate. Customers will then receive in-store credit to spend online or in person at any time. Unfortunately, the store credits can’t be used at IKEA Canada bistros, restaurants, or Swedish food markets.
