Gorgeous hotel in Canada named one of the best in the world

A gorgeous hotel in Canada was just named one of the best in the world.
Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo revealed their Unpack ’26: The Trends in Travel report on Wednesday.
The annual report highlights shifts in how travellers will explore the world and the destinations set to dominate itineraries in 2026.
Several Canadian destinations received accolades in the global report.
Hotels.com discovered that travellers are putting the “rest” in restoration in 2026 by checking into hotels that combine historical architecture with modern amenities.
It’s 2026 Hotels of the Year list spotlights a surge in demand for upcycled retreats such as former schoolhouses, train stations, and banks.
This includes one hotel in Canada that’s housed in four historic buildings in Montreal, all of which date back to the late 19th century.

Hôtel Place d’Armes
According to the report, Hôtel Place d’Armes has seen a 36 per cent increase in searches on Hotels.com in 2025 compared to 2024.
In line with the online accommodations site trend forecast, “Salvaged Stays,” the hotel was once home to banks and insurance offices in Canada.
According to the Hôtel Place d’Armes site, the western-most building, located at 701 Côte de la Place d’Armes, dates back to 1870. It housed the Great Scottish Life Insurance Company.
“On Nov. 7, 1975, the Quebec provincial government officially designated the building as a historic site, recognizing the structure for its cultural value and its exceptional design,” it reads.
The middle building, situated at 53-57 St. Jacques, used to be the former head office of the People’s Bank.
In 1869, the third building was built on 43-51 St. Jacques and was leased to a variety of tenants. The Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society of Montreal (a mutual savings and relief society) and the Caisse National d’Economie (CNE), a savings and fraternal benefit society, built the eastern-most building at 41 rue Saint-Jacques in 1899.

Expedia Group
“Today, these four heritage buildings are artfully connected. We’ve maintained the heritage of each building, while incorporating modern elements, two lively restaurants, and a plethora of meeting and event space,” reads the site. “Our hotel is a cornerstone of Old Montreal and a delight to all who enter.”
Other spots that were named one of 2026’s Hotels of the Year include Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu, formerly a school; Bodmin Jail Hotel in the U.K., which was a prison; and Union Station Nashville Yards in the U.S., which was a train station.
Hotels.com based its list on a year-over-year increase in global hotel searches on the site, comparing Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024, to Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2025.
Hôtel Place d’Armes isn’t the only hotel in Canada that has received high praise.
