Growing up, I loved accompanying my mom on trips to the grocery store. Now, as an adult, each solo trip feels a little bit like a game — how can I get the most bang for my buck?
I have a reputation for loving a good bargain, hunting for the best possible deals, and doing whatever I can to save money across all my areas of spending. This time around, I’m shopping at FreshCo, where they have every day low prices along with a Lowest Price Guarantee.
FreshCo is redefining what it means to be a discount grocery space, offering lower prices without sacrificing food quality, assortment, and a positive shopping experience. With the holiday season now in the rearview mirror, unbeatable prices are a must for the remainder of winter.
My trip to FreshCo
I set out to FreshCo to see just how much I could save on my weekly groceries, and quiz my friends on how much they think a basket of groceries should cost.
FreshCo has a wide selection of staples, seasonal items, fresh produce, and a wide variety of multicultural assortment. Plenty was already marked down thanks to weekly deals and locked and low prices, and I could shop with confidence knowing that FreshCo’s lowest price guarantee means they’ll match the lowest advertised price on identical flyer items from qualifying competitors.*
A week’s worth of groceries usually runs me at least $55 — more if I need higher-cost items like meat. While my FreshCo shopping list was vegetarian this time around, I did have a few different fruits on my list, along with dairy items like milk, butter, eggs, and yogurt.
However, I was surprised to find that a lot of classic grocery purchases cost less than I anticipated. I actually had to stop myself from buying things I didn’t need, simply because they were a good price!

I headed to checkout with 10 items for the week: Butter, strawberries, orange juice, bananas, cucumber, milk, Greek yogurt, eggs, apples, and bread. I purchased the Compliments brand for every product where it was available.
On top of the regular low prices, I was able to save even more thanks to additional flyer deals. The grand total came to $33.24. So, lower than my estimation, but what did my friends think?
Guess how much my groceries cost

I texted three friends who regularly buy a week’s worth of groceries for one person, and asked them what they thought a basket would cost.
“Mine averages $35! Like, that’s what I shoot for and can typically stay in. Maybe $40,” the first friend said.
“Between $40 and $50?” says the second friend. “Or is that crazy?”
The third friend estimated $37, but it was my partner who came the closest, guessing $35. Still, higher than my reality of $33.24. At the end of the day, the real winner is me, because I came in under budget. Turns out groceries don’t have to cost an arm and a leg!
