As if wedding planning isn’t stressful enough, one couple set to leave for their destination wedding is facing an unexpected dilemma after their dog ate the groom’s passport.

Boston couple Donato Frattaroli and his fiancée, Magda Mazri, are set to have their wedding ceremony on August 31. According to NBC Boston, the pair planned a romantic wedding reception in Italy.

Ahead of their trip, the couple went to City Hall for their marriage licence and letter of intent. To celebrate, they went out to dinner. But when they returned home, they discovered the horror unleashed by their golden retriever: 1.5-year-old Chickie was chewing on Frattaroli’s passport, which they had left on the counter.

The damaged pages included the back pages and a stamp from Mexico, where the couple got engaged.

At first glance, Mazri said the damage didn’t seem that bad. But upon closer inspection, they discovered that Chickie had also chewed out the first four pages.

“It was like every important page,” said Mazri. “Like all of his personal information — completely torn up, his picture page was torn up, the barcode on the back of the passport was torn up.”

Frattaroli told Good Morning America that Chewie “knew what she did” because suddenly “she got really cuddly.”

Despite this, Mazri stated that their puppy is “not a house destroyer” and that Chewie (short for Chicken Cutlet) is well-trained and a “very good dog.”

Unfortunately for the couple, no passport appointments are available in the area anytime soon, so they contacted local lawmakers who have been in touch.

“But ultimately, it comes down to the State Department and the passport office,” said Frattaroli.

Mazri isn’t allowing herself even to consider Plan B just yet.

“I’m optimistic it’s going to work out,” she said.

They told WCVB they’re scheduled to fly to Italy on Friday, August 26.

If it doesn’t work out, the bride will fly to Italy with their 100 friends and family sans the groom. Frattaroli said he plans to welcome them home when they return from their trip.
