If you buy your baby formula from Costco Canada, you may want to check if it’s part of a nationwide recall.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced a recall warning for Kendamil brand infant formula with whole milk on Sunday.
“The affected product is being recalled from the marketplace due to cereulide toxin,” reads the recall notice.

According to the CFIA, cereulide is a toxin produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus that can cause gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea and vomiting after ingestion. It is highly heat stable, meaning it is unlikely to be deactivated or destroyed by cooking or when preparing the baby formula for consumption.
The affected Kendamil brand infant formula was only sold at Costco Canada. Here are the details for the impacted products:
CFIA
This recall was triggered by a recall in another country, according tot he government agency.
“There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product,” reads the notice.
The CFIA advises consumers to do the following if they think they have the recalled baby formula from Costco Canada:
- If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider
- Check to see if you have recalled products
- Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products
- Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased
Customers can check the UPC code on the back of the Kendamil container.
CFIA
The CFIA says it’s conducting a food safety investigation, which could lead to other products being recalled.
“The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace,” reads the notice.
This is a class 2 recall, which means there is a moderate risk that consuming the product may lead to short-term or non-life-threatening health problems.
