If you want to spend the last long weekend of summer at the movie theatre, where the air conditioning is blasting and the butter popcorn is flowing, now’s your chance.

Best of all, you don’t have to break the bank to do it. Cineplex is bringing back its popular discounted movie ticket and popcorn deal for a limited time.

Canada’s largest cinema chain is offering moviegoers $5 general admission tickets and $5 small bags of popcorn (plus tax) on Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6.

It’s the ideal weekend to catch up on summer blockbusters like Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The End of Oak Street, and The Odyssey, though Cineplex says this offer is not
valid for IMAX 70MM screenings.

Or, you can opt for a movie marathon and see Tony, the Anthony Bourdain biopic directed by Canadian filmmaker Matthew Johnson, the Gillian Anderson-led slasher Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, and the acclaimed British rom-com Finding Emily — because you’ve got to have a little variety when at the movies.

Tickets are now available for purchase on Cineplex’s website, and you can upgrade your general admission ticket to any premium experience for a small fee.

According to Cineplex, the offer can be applied to movies in 3D, IMAX®, UltraAVX®, D-BOX®, 4DX®, ScreenX®, and VIP. However, it cannot be applied to non-feature films or Cineplex Events performances, or in combination with any other promotion, coupon, or discount.

The chain also says that part of the proceeds from this coming weekend’s $5 deal will support the Canadian Picture Pioneers, which helps members of Canada’s film industry through financial assistance and education.

Looking for more ways to save at the movie theatre? Cineplex also released its $3.99 Family Favourites lineup for September.
