
Several Canadian universities made it in the top 10 of the latest global ranking by QS World University Rankings.
Once again, Canadian universities were among the most outstanding, according to QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026. The list recognizes universities that are “leading the way in social and environmental sustainability.”
Nearly 2,000 universities are ranked according to their environmental impact, social impact, and governance. Last year, the University of Toronto was in the top spot; however, this year the university dropped to second place with a near-perfect score of 99.8. The number one spot now belongs to Lund University in Lund, Sweden, which has an overall score of 100.
Another Canadian university in the top 10 is the University of British Columbia, which retains its number five spot with a score of 98.6. Across the country is McGill University in Montreal, which ranks number nine in the world for its sustainability efforts and has a score of 98.1.
