
Two Canadians have died during a holiday trip to the Dominican Republic, a family member announced with “extreme sadness.”
According to a public Facebook post made by Gilles Sauvé Jr., Christine Sauvé and Alain Noël died during their sleep the night of Thursday, Dec. 25, into Friday, Dec. 26.
The news was also confirmed by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) to Daily Hive.
“It is with immense sadness that I announce the passing of my sister Christine Sauvé and my brother-in-law Alain Noël,” wrote Sauvé.
“Out of respect for our family and in order to grieve in privacy, we ask for your time and understanding. We will not be answering questions at this time. We are waiting to receive more answers before sharing further information.”
Global Affairs Canada told Daily Hive in an email that it is aware of two Canadian citizens who died in the Dominican Republic, but did not confirm their identities.
“GAC expresses its condolences to the family and loved ones,” stated spokesperson Thida Ith.
“Canadian officials are providing consular assistance and are in contact with local authorities to gather more information. Due to privacy considerations, no further information can be disclosed.”
