An Alberta couple is planning a “delayed” honeymoon 48 years after tying the knot, thanks to a recent $5-million lottery win.

The Grande Cache, Alta. couple, Wanda and Slav Rosa, were at home when they scanned their Jan. 17 Lotto 6/49 ticket. What happened next left them both momentarily speechless.

“I just froze after scanning the ticket and started counting the zeroes,” said Wanda while speaking to Lotto Spot. “After that, I said a bad word in Polish.”

Her husband, Slav, had a simpler reaction. “Oh, this is nice!” he mentioned to Lotto Spot.

The couple matched the Classic draw selection, securing the $5-million prize. Despite the life-changing win, Wanda says it still doesn’t feel entirely real.

Despite one of their sons still living with them, they didn’t tell him, opting not to tell anyone yet.

For now, the Rosas’ winning plans are family-focused. The couple hopes to share some of their winnings with loved ones and take a trip to Europe to visit family.

“We got married 48 years ago,” smiled Slav. “So, this is like a delayed honeymoon!”

The couple is also considering purchasing a new car, with the remainder of the prize going into savings.

“We’ve been saving all our lives for retirement,” Wanda added. “So, this is extra!”

The couple picked up their winning ticket at Grande Cache Petro Canada, located at 9910 Shand Ave. Their winning selection was 10, 12, 15, 33, 34 and 45 (exact match).
