Tourists from Canada will soon have to pay more to visit Thailand
If you’re planning to travel from Canada to Thailand, you might want to account for an additional expense in your budget.
Thailand is doubling its airport fee, and it will impact tourists from Canada and other countries. On Feb. 20, the Bangkok Post reported that management company Airports of Thailand is set to double airport service charges for all outbound international travellers.
Currently, passengers pay 730 Thai baht or C$32.25 per person for the passenger service charge (PSC). However, that fee is set rise to 1,120 Thai baht or C$49.47 per person starting on June 20, marking a steep 53 per cent increase.
Tourists don’t have to pay the fee separately as the charge is automatically added to the final cost of their tickets.

The new fee will be implemented at six airports across the country: Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, Phuket International Airport, Hat Yai International Airport, Chiang Mai International Airport, and Mae Fah Luang – Chiang Rai International Airport.
The increase only applies to international departures. However, if you’re flying within Thailand, fees for domestic flights will remain low at 130 Thai baht or C$5.74 per passenger.
The increase was approved by the Civil Aviation Board on Dec. 3, 2025, and is expected to bring in an additional 13 billion Thai baht in revenue (C$574,230,930). A majority of the funds will go towards building a new terminal at Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok.
But it’s not just Thailand. Tourists heading to popular destinations face several new fees and increases this year.
Tourists in Mexico must pay approximately C$37 to visit Baja California Sur. This year, Paris and Milan have both increased their accommodation tax.
