Even though Canada-U.S. relations might be frosty, a new ranking names Canada as one of the top spots for Americans to relocate to.
Country Navigator, a cultural intelligence training platform, conducted a study where it analyzed OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and developed economies to suggest the best places for U.S. workers to relocate, looking at migration trends, demand, economic conditions, and cultural alignment.
It then created a ranking of its 10 top countries, with Canada snagging fifth place.
“Canada records the highest level of demand, with more than 105,000 annual searches from the U.S., alongside strong migration flows. Its position reflects its role as one of the most established destinations for international workers, supported by structured immigration pathways and continued labour demand,” reads the blog post from Country Navigator.
“The Government of Canada highlights immigration as a key driver of economic growth, with programs designed to attract skilled workers across multiple sectors.”
In an email to Daily Hive, Country Navigator said that there are 105,500 relocation searches on average of Americans looking to move to Canada each year — more than any other country.
Further, one of the most compelling factors for American workers is the fact that Canada is one of the most culturally aligned countries to the U.S., “making it an ideal location for Americans to settle into new working environments.”
“In my experience, success when moving abroad is not just about where you go, but how well you understand and adapt to the culture once you get there,” said Chris Crosby, the co-founder of Country Navigator, in a statement sent to Daily Hive.
“How people communicate, how decisions are made, and how relationships are built can vary significantly between countries. In unfamiliar environments, these differences can slow integration, create misunderstandings, and make it harder to settle into a new role.”
What else did Country Navigator look at?
Other than U.S. relocation searches and cultural compatibility, Country Navigator examined American migrants per hundred thousand people, the unemployment rate, political stability, and annual U.S. relocation searches.
Canada has about 620 Americans per hundred thousand, an unemployment rate of 6.9 per cent, and political stability of 76 per cent. Its overall score was 8.07 out of 10.
“The findings show that while interest in moving abroad is widespread, the countries attracting the most American talent tend to share a consistent set of advantages: strong political stability, accessible job markets, and – crucially – closer cultural alignment with the United States,” reads the post.
What are the other places Americans want to go?
Switzerland takes the top spot for the country that American workers want to go to. Country Navigator said that it is “widely recognised for its stable political system, highly skilled workforce, and strong economy, all of which continue to attract international talent.”
Further, it has a low unemployment rate (4.9 per cent), as well as some of the highest salaries in Europe.
New Zealand is in second place due to a high quality of life and stable economy, and Ireland is third, due to the fact that it is a major European hub for multinational companies.
